SCHOOL COUNSELOR'S OFFICE
Instructor: Mrs. Cruzen
If people do not know we care, they will never care what we know........

I am very proud and privileged to have been the Naches Valley Middle and Intermediate School Counselor for the past 20 years. I have lived in the Naches Valley since I was 12 years old (yes, a long time.....). My husband and I are both Naches Valley graduates and decided to raise our family in this beautiful valley. I have a  degree in psychology and a master's degree in education with an emphasis in school guidance counseling and was a children's therapist before entering the field of school counseling.

I believe that a school counselor should be a leader in encouraging a positive school climate; a specialist who makes a positive difference in the lives of students; a program manager and educator who maximizes the potential of students and most importantly an advocate for children.  As your school counselor I would like to invite each and everyone of you to stop by my office anytime or feel free to call me to set up a time that would be convenient for you.  I extend my guidance services to students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community.  My goal as a counselor is not to be intrusive in personal family matters but to be a person that helps students to:

  • Think for themselves
  • Believe in themselves and
  • Help themselves
Conversations are kept confidential.  Please be assured that I am bound by the Code of Ethics of the American School Counselors’ Association.  Parent and child’s confidentiality is protected to the extent allowed by law and school policy.

If I can be of service, please contact me.  My school office phone number is 653-1547.

Naches Valley School District Counseling Program Mission Statement

students with a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program.  The program
is centered on engaging curriculum and services that encourage the highest level of achievement
through student growth in academic, personal/social, and career competencies.  As student
advocates, school counselors will partner with other educators, parents, and community members to
create a caring environment in which all students may become life-long learners, creative thinkers,

Navigation 101-Our Advisory Program for 6th-8th grade
Question:What is Navigation 101?
Answer:Navigation 101 is a life skills and planning curriculum for students in grades 6 through 12. It aims to help students make clear, careful, and creative plans for life beyond high school, and:
  • Encourage student engagement by building meaningful relationships between each student and at least one adult at school, thereby helping students remain engaged and motivated.
  • Enhance student achievement by helping students evaluate their own skills, interests, and accomplishments; successfully make the transition between middle and high school; take more challenging courses; and understand the relationship between school and life after graduation.
  • Involve parents or guardians by engaging them in students’ decisions, sharing comprehensive information about students’ progress, and inviting them to annual student-led conferences.
